With more than 40 years’ experience in home renovations in Perth, it’s natural that we’ve got favourites! While every project is special to us, some gain a spot in our hearts. Perhaps they showcase a radical transformation that went off without a hitch, or something funny happened on site one day — whatever the reason, they’re hard to forget. We compiled our favourites into a lookbook to inspire some renovation ideas. Here’s a sneak peek!
Como, Single-Storey Extension
This Como house was once a small three-bedroom house with segregated living areas.
We transformed it into an open and spacious family home, with an inside-outside flow leading seamlessly to the garden. A kids’ zone at the front of the property flows into an open plan living, dining and kitchen area. We used large glass stacking doors alongside bifold windows to create a view from the kitchen, through the alfresco area and out into the garden. We finished off by creating a “parents’ wing” that took advantage of the northern orientation of the back of the site, and views of the garden.
Dalkeith, Single-Storey Extension
We updated this 1940s home with a single-storey extension and it became a 2018 finalist in the Housing Industry Association awards!
This project involved additions and internal renovations to the interior. We were asked to create three large bedrooms for the resident family, while retaining the home’s characterful air. This renovation included extending into a double carport, a new main en-suite off the master bedroom, a new entryway and a powder room. We finished this off by giving the laundry room a complete makeover.
Marmion, Kitchen and Living Area Upgrade
By upgrading the kitchen and living areas of this Marmion house we completely transformed its interior and exterior.
We updated the façade by repitching the roof, rendering the walls and adding a new portico, master suite and garage. We relocated the laundry room, which allowed us to reconnect the newly extended open plan kitchen and living areas to the new alfresco dining area and backyard. Internally, we gave the cathedral ceilings a lift with a new lining, renovated the bathroom and finished off by replacing the doors and windows.
Trigg, Multi-Storey Extension
This home renovation won at the 2018 Housing Excellence Awards, hosted by the Master Builders’ Association!
We changed this single-storey 3 bedroom house into a contemporary, double storey home with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Each bedroom was given a large separate walk-in wardrobe. Aside from the additional bedroom and bathroom, we created a large kitchen — expanding it with a scullery and an alfresco area. Finally, large entertainment areas complemented a second living area that took advantage of the ocean views.
Mount Pleasant, Multi-Storey Extension
At Mount Pleasant, we transformed a once humble 3×1 brick-and-tile house into a modern home perfect for family living, with double the floor area of the original.
We helped the owners “build up” to maximise the full potential of this small, but elevated block. On the ground floor, we extended the front lounge, renovated the kitchen and converted the rear bedroom into a laundry room. We fitted an open-tread, glass balustrade jarrah staircase, leading to the top floor. This area now features a spacious master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a study and an entertainment area that flows seamlessly onto a large balcony overlooking the Canning river.
These five projects are a great example of what a little dreaming, coupled with experienced craftsmanship, can do to transform almost any place into a home you look forward to returning to.
